Curren$y is no stranger to getting the slowed down treatment from Houston’s very own OG Ron C and DJ Candlestick of Chopstars fame. OG Ron C appears to have overtaken DJ Michael Watts as the go to man to chop and screw rap albums in the vein of DJ Screw. DJ Candlestick seems to be Ron’s protege. They’re doing things big with the website radio station at chopnotslop.com. Their association with the Choppaholix is undetermined. The Choppaholix used to have a show on XM radio’s 66Raw (remember Leo G and Mz. Kitti?) and now OG Ron C and the Chopstars have their own ChopNotSlop Show on Drake’s Sound 42 on SiriusXM. OG Ron C’s take on Riff Raff’s Neon Icon is a legendary classic.
Anyway, Land Air Sea is the latest to get the OG VIP treatment. Curren$y sounds good slowed down. His delivery is always clear and laid back, but at this pace you can really savor each syllable he spits. He sticks with the inspirational self-improvement motifs in the vein of Tony Robbin’s, making this a good album to get hyped, but not too hyped to. The track listing gets a good shuffling, moving Shark Tank to the final spot. Fiend, Fendi P, and Cruz all take on supporting rolls. Can you feel the molasses dripping down the cup?
